Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a difference between asthma and COPD?

Short Answer

Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease are different diseases that cause similar symptoms.

Long Answer

Asthma causes inflammation in the air passages which then makes the muscles in the air passages contract, restricting the flow of air. The symptoms are not always present, and reducing the inflammation eases the symptoms and restores normal air flow.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is permanent damage to the air passages. There is long-term narrowing of the airways and any relief is temporary. COPD may be considered a more serious condition, which can lead to long-term health problems.
